A thermoelectric cooler (TEC) module is a solid state device which can control heat flux using current. It is very useful in small scale temperature control, providing fast temperature response and ultra-high temperature stability. TEC temperature control equipment can also be very compact and green. No mechanical moving or hot/cold material consumption is needed.

Chroma’s Advanced TEC Controllers have an excellent temperature monitoring engine, which allows 2 T-type thermal couple inputs. The cold junction of the engine is internally stabilized up to 0.001°C, for that 0.01°C temperature resolution and control stability can be achieved. The TEC driver uses a filtered PWM architecture, which obtains high driving power efficiency as ordinary PWM drivers have, but smoothens the current modulation to a DC-like output. It’s very important for electro-magnetic sensitive measurements.

Another important feature of Chroma’s Advanced TEC Controllers is the true TEC PID auto tune function. Chroma’s Advanced TEC Controllers have unique auto tune algorithm to guarantee the best control and temperature response. Stability down to the temperature resolution, which is 0.01°C, is regularly achieved regardless the size and geometry of thermal platforms.

Chroma thermal/multi-function data loggers measure temperatures, voltages, and currents with high accuracy and resolutions. For example, they support 8 types of thermal couples measurement with ITS-90 defined temperature range at 0.3°C accuracy and 0.01°C resolution*, while most data loggers in the market are at 1°C accuracy and 0.1°C resolution*. Chroma loggers are with 1000VDC channel to channel isolation, which means they can attach thermal couples to objects with high electricity, such as batteries, solar cells, working PCB, etc., and still get correct data. Many competitors simply malfunction, or are even damaged in those cases. Chroma loggers use a parallel architecture for data retrieval, while most of our competitors use a sequential multiplexing method. This means data rate per channel is quick and constant for Chroma loggers, while others become much slower as more channels are used.

Chroma 19056/19057 Hipot Analyzer is an equipment specially designed for testing and analyzing ultra-high withstand voltage. The series of models include 10kVac/12kVdc/20kVdc with maximum AC20mA/DC10mA output can perform AC/DC withstand voltage and insulation resistance tests with contact check during production line test. In addition to the patented OSC (Open Short Check), High Voltage Contact Check is added to test the components with high insulation capability when high voltage outputs to improve the testing reliability and efficiency.

Chroma 19056/19057 with GFI (Ground Fault Interrupt) is designed to protect operator’s safety when abnormal ground current (A 2 -A 1 ) occurs.

Chroma’s Guardian 19055 Series Hipot Analyzers are designed for hipot tests and analysis. The tests of AC/DC/IR can be programmed in AC 5kV/100mA – DC 6kV/20mA with 500VA output rating which complies with the EN50191 requirements. The Guardian 19055-C not only includes AC/DC/IR tests but also a new measurement technology – Corona Discharge Detection (CDD). Corona Discharge Detection and Discharge Level Analysis (DLA) are used to specify the Corona Discharge Start Voltage (CSV), Flashover Start Voltage (FSV) & BreakDown Voltage (BDV).

These functions provide useful data to verify the product’s insulation and increase the reliability of the product during manufacturing.

For Contact Checking during the hipot test, the Guardian 19055 Series is equipped with a High Frequency Contact Check (HFCC) besides the Open Short Check (OSC) function. By conducting the Contact Check during Hipot test, it can increase the test reliability and efficiency significantly. For convenience, the Guardian 19055 has a large LCD screen for operation. In addition, the GFI human protection circuit and Floating safety output prevents electrical hazard to the operator.

The 19050 series electrical safety testers are advanced digital hipot testers with load and line regulation to ensure measurement integrity. Multi- step capability allows users to perform multiple tests in sequence, such as AC hipot followed by IR.

The Chroma Hipot Tester 19050 series provides 3 models to choose from. The 19052 includes AC/ DC/IR Hipot testing and insulation resistance (IR) measurements. The 19053 provides 8 scan channels for IR measurement, and the 19054 provides 4 scan channels for IR measurement in a single compact unit.

The Chroma Hipot Tester 19070 series provides 2 models to choose from. The 19071 is for AC Hipot testing. The 19073 combines both AC and DC Hipot with insulation resistance (IR) measurements into a single compact unit.

Open Short Check (OSC)
The O.S.C function is used to check whether the connection is open, or a short circuit, between the instrument and DUT (device under test) before the Electrical Safety Test is performed. If the connection is bad between the instrument and DUT, like bad leads or relay oxidation, the test may reult in a PASS determination. In some cases, the DUT has a short before testing. Testing continually leads to instrumentation damage due it suffering the high load current. Therefore, we check for the open and short circuit to ensure the test is effective and to protect the instruments.

The Chroma 19035 Series supports 5kVac/6kVdc high voltage output to conform with withstand voltage test requirements for wound components, and has a maximum output current up to 30mA. The Insulation Resistance (IR) test measurement ranges from 1MO to 50GO, and voltage output can be up to 5kV; while the DCR test can measure the resistance parameters of wound components and test circuit connections (contact check) before the withstand voltage test is performed.

The 19035 Series also has powerful functions for Flashover detection and Open/Short Check (OSC), as well as programmable voltage and time parameters for various characteristics of DUTs for increased testing reliability and product quality.

Chroma 19020 has equipped with the world’s first sync Hipot test function that one single unit can perform 10 channels sync output and measurements simultaneously. Maximum 10 units (master & slave) can be controlled to have 100 channels in total. The Chroma 11050 LCR Meter is a high frequency precision test instrument for measuring and evaluating passive components with high accuracy and speed. Measurements include the primary and secondary parameters required for testing inductance, capacitance, resistance, quality factor, and loss factor of passive components. The High Frequency LCR Meter has programmable testing frequency ranges from 1kHz to 10MHz or 60Hz to 5MHz (11050-5M) in 1Hz increments for analyzing passive component characteristics under different frequencies. With 0.1% basic measurement accuracy, the 11050’s measured results are highly stable and highly reliable. The fast 15ms measurement speed effectively increases productivity when working with automated machines.

In addition to the excellent measurement features of other Chroma LCR Meters, the 11050 has a variety of convenient functions. It has 3 output impedance modes to meet the demands of measuring and working with other instruments. The flexible digital display allows adjustment to best fit the test resolution, while the test signal monitoring function is able to display the voltage and current actually being applied to the DUT. The timing settings for trigger delay, measure delay, and average number of times allow the measurements to work closely with automated machines to get the most accurate results with limited testing time.

The Chroma 11022 and 11025 LCR Meters are passive component testers that give you the most cost effective alternative equivalent to other high priced meters. They are designed for the demanding applications of production test, incoming inspection, component design and evaluation. Programmable test signal level settings are from 10mV to 1V in steps of 10mV, and the VM/IM signal level monitor functions allow you to evaluate your devices at the level you specify. Ten test frequencies of 50Hz, 60Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 1kHz, 10kHz, 20kHz, 40kHz, 50kHz, and 100kHz, can be used to evaluate passive components and transformers/ LF coils.

Other low cost LCR meters on the market have shortcomings when used for low impedance component evaluations, such as the large capacitance of electrolytic capacitors and low inductance of coils. As the 11022/11025 are equipped with high resolution (0.01mO) in low impedance, and high accuracy (0.3%) untill 100mO range, they can be used to evaluate low impedance components to meet measurement requirements.
